Inspired by Carl Sandburg's "Chicago". I wrote this on the back of the handout my teacher gave us in class while she was talking. I know. So responsible.
center of art and trading and life,
the crowning jewel of Night,
a symbol of harmony and peace and light:
a secret cupped in the hands of dreamers
starlight silvering these blessèd roofs
starlight silvering a handful of jewels
starlight silvering a river that bends to the Cursebreaker's will
and you will never find a city such as this:
laughing, loving, creating, living
with peace made in blood-promises, written into the undersides of the cobblestones, ingrained in the beating heart of the city.
there is no other place that shines, that pulses, that radiates such a sense of home, home, home. No other city quite like this one, a bright shining star born of dreams and hope coalescing in an ebony night.
and this is that city which is attacked but survives; this is that city which is protected, a haven for the young laughter ringing through the streets. bubbling with peace and love and life and light.
city. city of starlight. ageless and eternal. home to dreamers.
