Between Love and Logic

(A/N: It's finally here - the third installment in the "Between" series! This one takes place on Genesis, whilst David and Saavik are exploring this forbidden planet *creepy music*.

Btw, the song lyrics in the past story were from "Sleep Well My Angel" by We are the Fallen. I highly encourage you to look them up. The girl's voice is absolutely amazing, and I think it's a shame more people don't know her. Just try googling "we are the fallen", "carly smithson" or "ben moody".

Anyway...)

The dry leaves that covered the ground crackled under Saavik's feet as she walked through the jungle forest, David Marcus at her side. "Yes, sir," he was saying for the seventeenth time that day. "Look, no, I'm sorry sir, but we don't know yet what's causing it. No sir, I don't - hello? Hello? Sir? Huh." He turned to her. "Com's down. Should only be for about two minutes though."

Mentally, Saavik started counting the seconds. One. Two. Three. Four. Five. Six...

"Let's just wait here," he said.

"Fine."

Cue rather long, uncomfortable silence. Fourteen. Fifteen. Sixteen. Seventeen...

"Hey, Saavik?"

"Yes?"

"Um, can, can I talk to you for a minute?"

"If you wish to." Thirty-three. Thirty-four...

"How do you think of me, Saavik? Seriously?"

"Infuriating. You are more than a bit infuriating...but you are certainly not as bad as some humans. And how do you think of me, David?"

"I, ah...well, I'd never met a Vulcan before, so I wasn't really sure what to expect from you. So when I first saw you, you...well, you were just so new for me. And then I got to know you more, and everything happened all at once, and I saw things in you I never expected, and...I'm sorry. I'm not good at short answers. I just wish that we...that we could have had more nights like that one."

"You mean, the night you took me to dinner? And we talked? And, you sang for me at the door?"

"Yeah."

"Is that like what humans call a date?"

"Uh...no. That wasn't a proper date. But, if that's what you want..." He moved in closer to her. "I'd love to take you on a real date, when all this blows over. I...think you're a great girl, Saavik. You're just amazing."

"Thank you, David." One hundred nineteen. One hundred twenty.

"And your eyes, they have that shine to them that you never show...Saavik, look me in the face so I can see those eyes."

She turned. Then, David grabbed both hands, and kissed her.

Needless to say, she lost count of the seconds.

He let go of her hands, and said, "I did it. I kissed you. You can hate me now, if you want. But I had to. I love you, Saavik."

Then, she did something very un-Vulcan. She smiled at him. "And I love you, David."

He moved in to kiss her again. She met him halfway.

Beep, beep. "Mr. Marcus? Come in Mr. Marcus. Mr. Marcus? What can those two be doing?"
