Stupid Enough to Dream

The guard glanced at his watch. 7 PM; his shift would end soon, but not before he saw the kid. Almost everyday that red blur would race up the street leading to the upper plate, barely making it in time. He never tried to get past the guards, knew they wouldn't let him onto the plate, but he that wouldn't stop him from coming, always at the same time, always just to catch a last glimpse of the setting sun.

"You're wasting your time, Reno. All you'll ever see of that sun is the last tip before it's gone. No one makes it out of here, no one sees the sky."

"You just wait," Reno would tell him everyday. "I'm gonna see that sky. More than that, I'm gonna fly through it. You just wait."

He was just like all the others, he would think as he watched Reno walk away everyday, just another slum kid who was stupid enough to dream

He would learn soon enough.

Tseng glanced at his watch. 6 AM; his day had started an hour ago and will include a red ball of energy taking a Shinra Chopper out for the first time. He will eagerly jump into the cockpit, itching to start the propellers. He will not do anything without Tseng's instruction first, knew that would not impress his new commander, but that won't stop the excited, overjoyed smile on his face as he watched the sunrise from the air, unaware of exactly what being a Turk meant.

"Enjoy the sunrise while you can, Reno, before all it means is another day."

"I'll never get tired of that," Reno will tell him. "Each sunrise means a new sky, and today, I get to fly through it."

He was just like all the others, Tseng will think while he watches Reno adjust altitude, just a new rookie who was stupid enough to dream.

He will learn soon enough.

A/N: Kinda cheesey, I know, but it just popped into my head before I left for school the other day, and, since I haven't written anything in so long, I decided to post it. :P

Why is everything I write so short?

Thank you Strange and Intoxicating -rsa- for looking over it for me. You deserve huggles!
