This was originally a drabble for a music/writing meme on Livejournal. I expanded on it a little to make it more functional for this site. The title of this piece came from a line in The Smashing Pumpkins song Stand Inside Your Love.

Amano Akira owns Reborn.

When Dino Cavallone kissed him, all tongue and teeth and soft I missed yous against bruised lips, Hibari Kyouya felt numb.

Such an action should have excited any number of thoughts in anyone else, but inside, Kyouya felt nothing. He didn't mind. After all, Cavallone was good at what he did. Sometimes, for the briefest of moments when Dino touched him, kissed him, fucked him, Hibari could feel heat flare in his chest and wondered if that's what feeling love was like.

Dino never seemed to care; he'd once said that as long as he could continue to love Hibari, he didn't mind. He'd said these words with such honesty and calm that he'd left his younger lover feeling unsettled.

Hibari had found his selflessness to be foreign, almost disgusting.

Still, there were times after Cavallone had fallen asleep -- after the two rough fucks of the night and the one slow session of sex -- that Hibari allowed himself to roll closer, tucking himself under the Italian's chin and wondering if the older man got overwhelmed by the scent of his hair while he slept. Sometimes when he lay awake listening to the sound of Cavallone's breathing, he'd wonder if this was affection, instead of the bizarre, post-coital desire for the touch of another's skin, the warmth of another's flesh.

Hibari was always the first one up and gone in the morning, without so much as a proper goodbye. Dino never minded, because the Japanese's man's scent was always still so strong in the back of his throat he could almost taste him; he could lay back against the pillows for hours, still naked from the night before, and breathe Kyouya's scent, drown himself in the lingering remnants of the Japanese man's presence.

It was enough for both of them, and the comfort, the maybes and the silent acceptance would ultimately be what made them continue to return to one another's embraces.
