Nothing has been the same since Mom died. Everyone changed somehow, reacted differently. Alice and Jasper, Carlisle and Esme, Emmett and Jacob, even Rosalie, considering the fact that she and my mom never really got along. EJ acted like it didn't make any diffeence, but I could tell he was just hiding the pain. Me and Daddy on the other hand...our worlds came crashing down. It's been a couple years since then, but that stupid memory keeps me from forgetting that last night...

It was March 18th, 2041. Mom was going to her mother's funeral. The three of us, me, Daddy, and EJ, were trying to convince her to take someone with her, but she's just so stubborn. Huh. Now I know where I got it from.

"Bella, please, just take me with you," Daddy said.

"Edward, I'm supposedly 54 and live in England. I'm going as a 'grandchild' and I'm going alone." Mom said.

"But-"

"No buts!"

"Mom," I started, "EJ and I never met Renée, so wouldn't it be fair if at least one of us got to see her, dead or not?"

"Sweetie," Mom said, "Life isn't fair. If it was, none of us would be here right now."

Daddy started to say something, but then turned to me. "She has a point."

"And it also means," Jake said, "that I would not be a werewolf, and your mother would've ended up with me."

"You wish, pup."

"Ugh! Didn't I tell you two to save the insults for when Ness and I aren't around?" Mom yelled. "And it's true, Edward." She said much more sweetly, almost like she didn't want to say it. And I'm pretty sure she didn't.

"Bella," Daddy begged. "Please." He was wearing his sad face, the one Mom usually wears when she get what she wants. But vice versa doesn't work very well.

"No. And that is the final word I have." And then she walked out the door.
