UNMARKED GRAVES
Even so, all good things come to an end.
There was always a unmarked gravestone in the Konoha cemetery. No one really knew why it was there except for the members of Team Seven. It was a long story.
Team Seven was finally complete. Sasuke was home.
Sasuke did not come back of his own will… at least that's what he told everyone. But unconsciously, he begun gravitating to Hi no Kuni after his brother was dead.
Black fire… loneliness… hopelessness… frustration… shattering glass…
Sakura did not love him as wholly as she did. It was just as well. Because their former love was merely her obsessing over him. She loved him; he was her first love and always would be. But now, she had another person, Ryoki. Her baby, her beautiful black haired baby.
Kakashi was doing great as Hokage. He had revamped some of the old… crappy rules. Changed the academy syllabus and dated Mitarashi Anko. And what of Naruto?
The dead last, now a fast tracked, rising ANBU recruit. Of all of them he was the most successful.
But Team Seven was broken.
On the day Sasuke returned, Naruto had brought him back, just like he promised Sakura all that years ago. All tied up with a pink bow and all. And looking back on it, it was the only time after the war Naruto had annoyed Sasuke. And Sasuke had never said anything. Naruto and Sasuke never told her what had happened. As usual, being their idiotic gallant selves, trying to protect her.
Pink… falling petals… stained forehead protectors… dead bodies…
She did not mind, Sasuke was finally back. Team Seven was whole.
But two weeks later, in a rare time Kakashi-sensei had escaped from his duties, it was broken once again and now, Naruto had left them behind.
"I am an ANBU."
Those quiet words spoke of more destruction than Sasuke's loud ambitions for vengeance. He was leaving them behind, perhaps forever. He would be in ANBU no longer working with them.
"Why?" Sakura choked out.
"I always wanted to. At least there I could do well by…" Naruto trailed off.
And Sasuke knew the only thing that held Naruto away from this was him. His promise to Sakura to get Sasuke back, already fulfilled, no longer held him back. Kakashi smiled bitterly. He knew why Naruto had joined ANBU better than the other two. He was afraid of becoming like Sasuke, he had more reason to be. Hinata and her- no, their child was dead because of enemy-nin.
No one said anything. They knew despite it all, that dream Sasuke had broken, Sakura held together, Kakashi witnessed and Naruto fulfilled was over. It was time to wake up. And so, that was the last time Team Seven met.
And Naruto loved it more this way, just him alone. He would never say but years from then, he admitted to his children, Inoichi and his twin, Hinata he did always hate Sasuke from the moment he proclaimed that he would raze Konoha down.
Memories… dead flowers… pretty grey eyes… blood stains…
The gravestone marked the end of Team Seven, a legend in its own right. A destroyed dream. But the most important event in its members lives.
