Starting Over
For as long as she could remember, they had been close friends, partners and teammates. It had been always like that, but like the fact that time is never still, so is friendship. Their kind of friendship that is.
Yes, ever since they met, it had been a close friendship that they always held, never anything less, never anything more. But she sighed, as she knows things are different now, good, and maybe bad.
Good, for the boy that she always admired returns her love. Sokka, of the Water Tribe, who was her number one victim, who she loves to bully, who she loves to tease and who she, just...loves.
Sokka, had come to a realization that who he needed was ultimately, Toph. It was hard for her to contemplate on that fact, yet, she knows it's true.
Bad, for the very fact that Sokka's previous love, Suki, continued to love him. And her anger, resentment and loathe towards Toph only escalated higher and higher.
Although Toph has always been the kind of girl who had no care what others thought of her, whether they were mad at her or just disliked her, the thought of a girl in her circle of friends disliking her gave her an upset stomach. She has never felt guilty of 'taking Sokka' away from Suki since the day they were together, no, she will never feel guilty. But the idea that Sokka's previous love was there, who will always be there with the whole gang, made her sick.
She exhaled deeply, her palms pressed against the dirt as her feet dipped in the lake, swirling them in small circles, feeling the cool waters swishing around her feet.
As she was just about to close her eyes, she felt someone coming.
He sat down close to her, crossed his legs and leaned back. "What's wrong?" he started. "Nothin'. I'm cool, why?" "You're all alone. Like you're thinking hard" he chuckled a little.
She smiled a little, and yawned, throwing her head back slightly. He moved closer to her, sliding his butt, as she raised her brow to face him. Though Toph never actually looked at anyone since she was blind, she's made attempts to face whoever she's been talking to.
Her face was sarcastic, as always, "Sokka, you're weird" she laughed, and faced forward again. He laughed with her, "And Toph, you're improving. You usually don't face anyone when you're talking. I like that"
She punched his arm again, something he's been used to for so long.
"Feeling better?" "Yeah"
He kept his eyesight forward like hers, and pointed his lips.
"You know Toph, I'm just real glad that we got to be with each other for so long. We've always been so close, you and I have this humour that no one else understands but us"
"Sokka, why are you telling me this?" she keened her eyes.
"Because I don't want you to think you're a rebound to me. Maybe it hasn't gotten to your head, but it definitely has gotten to mine. I just don't want you thinking that I'm using you, or making you a rebound"
"What's your point? I never thought of that. Well, now I kind of have" she calmly replied.
"No, don't. That's why, I want to start over. I want to forget about everything I did to upset and hurt you. I want to start fresh, with both of us"
She smiled one last time, faced him, and said, "That's the first good idea you've had in a while, Sokka"
