One-shot based on trailers for ep 5, mostly Gaius and Uther but Igraine is mentioned quite a bit
Merlin stared his friend.
"You're just going to walk in there and tell Uther his new lady friend is a troll?"
Gaius nodded "That's exactly what I'm going to do." Leaving the young boy stunned he walked over to the door and headed down the stairs, at the last minute he turned back "Keep Arthur away from everyone except Morgana and Gwen, guard him with your life" a dumbstruck warlock nodded.
"Gaius" Uther smiled warmly at his old friend "To what do I owe this pleasure?"
"I have come to inform you of something"
"And what would that be?" the king was relaxed as he poured a goblet of wine, proffering some to Gaius "Wine?"
"No thank you..." he waited until Uther was paying attention "you do realise your new wife is a troll Sire"
"What?!" the king laughed "You're just jealous that you don't get love Gaius... Catrina is the most beautiful woman I have seen and I swear to never be faithful to another"
The physician blanched "What about Igraine?"
Uther turned away, shrugging "She has been in the grave for 22 years... It is time to move on and start a new life."
"You swore undying love as she lay with Arthur in her arms... are you going to break that promise because of some Courtesan monster who uses magic to enchant you?"
"Don't be ridiculous Gaius, she has no magic" Uther turned to his old friend, no longer cheerful
"You've only known her two weeks and you've married her, you're like Arthur was over that Sidhe; Sophia." Gaius was starting to loose every bit of patience he'd ever owned "Does Igraine's sacrifice mean nothing to you?"
"Catrina is healthy and will bear me children, Igraine barely strong enough to bring Arthur into the world and she'd been barren before that"
"So you give up everything you killed for? Everything you used to destroy those with magic? You'll give up Camelot as we know it? You'll forget your own son, and who gave him to you?" his voice was cold and quiet
"Arthur will always be my heir and favorite son" Uther sounded as though the conversation was nearly over
"And who will you think of when you look at him?" gaius strode forward "Will you see a woman crying into your cloak as she gives him birth? Will you remember who gave you THIS?" the physician grabbed at his kings neck, yanking out a blue gem and shoving it into Uther's face.
"Igraine gave it to me as a token of her love and I wear it as such"
Gaius stared at his King; how could he be so causal about the last thing Igraine gave him. To marry that TROLL and completely forget his wife and only love. It was intolerable!
The king reeled sideways with a yelp as the red mark stood out on his cheek
"Tristan was right. You're a stupid, selfish uncaring TYRANT!!!" Gaius swung on his heel and marched out, glad to have finally done the only thing that had ever made an angry Uther see sense.
He would die for that, but he had finally reminded the King who his Queen was.
Just to be clear; Gaius backhanded Uther over the face
