The toys jumped when the horn of the ship blew. The horn was always an exciting moment because it meant the beginning of a fun adventure. It made all the toys even more excited, all except Woody.
"It was supposed to do that right?" Woody asked Dolly.
"Yes, Woody, all ships have a horn that blows before a journey begins."
This was the first time Andy's toys went on the Toy Ship for New Year's Eve. The tradition had been created fifty years ago, but only for the toys who's owners went on vacation. It was just an overnight adventure that had toys back the day before their owners arrived home.
Woody still had lingering thoughts that this wasn't a good idea, but if Bonnie's current toys said that no mishaps ever happened then they were all in for a smooth ride.
"What is this ship made our of anyway?" Hamm asked.
"Steel Lego's," Pricklepants explained. "Really quite fascinating isn't it? Not one accident has occurred."
Woody groaned inside hating whenever somebody said that because something bad would happen. But it was his first time on a ship, that was rare for a toy. "I really do hope that nothing goes wrong." He said for what seemed like the umpteenth time.
"Would you put a sock in it, Woody? Nothing' is going to happen." Jessie said whacking him in the arm. Buzz walked up to Woody, putting an arm around his shoulder. "Just enjoy the night while you can. Everything is going to be just fine."
"Oh, this is so exciting! It's it Reptillus?" Trixie said to the dinosaur toy that she'd known for a year now.
"Wonderful, never thought I'd ever been aboard one of these."
"Neither did I. I'm excited with a queasy feeling in my stomach at the same time." Rex said as he was bouncing with joy.
"Oh, when aren't you?" Potato Head grumbled.
"Would you like to walk on the deck my lovely?" Reptillus asked Trixie giving her a romantic look that made Trixie giggle. "Sure."
"Do you think I could come along?" Rex asked trying not to sound unhappy.
"Sure, Rex. There's a lot to explore."
As they left together Rex let out a sigh letting his head droop to the ground.
"What's wrong Rex?"
"I wish... I wish Trixie liked me like how she likes Reptillus. I feel as if she's forgotten about me."
"Oh Rex, don't let that get you down," Jessie said in an encouraging way. "You're her best friend, the one who always plays video games with her, something Reptillus can't do."
Rex's face brightened, knowing that was true. "You're right, thanks Jessie!" With that Rex ran out from the room they were assigned to for the night.
"Finally, some peace and quiet from that lizard." Mr. Potato Head said as he left to explore their room with his wife. "Oh, can you ever say something nice about Rex?" Mrs. Potato Head complained.
"Yeah, when I'm hung upside down and beaten to death." he said as they disappeared.
"Come on, let's see if any single folks need some comfort." Hamm said as he walked out with Slinky.
"Wow, I can't believe we're really here! This ship is beautiful. I wish Bullseye could be here to see this." Jessie said as she and Dolly went to walk into the other rooms. "Sorry, cowgirl, some toys need to stay behind just in case. If only you saw Chuckles a few years before. He vowed never to go on a ship again."
Buzz waited until they were out of hearing reach and pulled Woody to the side.
"Tonight is the best." He whispered to Woody.
"I couldn't agree more, you got the..."
It's safe and sound. She's going to be so happy."
"And you're sure she's going to say yes?"
Buzz looked deep into Woody's eyes. "We've been together for almost three years now. I believe she'll say yes."
"I've never sat on a bed our size!" Jessie yelled in excitement as the others came out from the other room. "Oh Buzz, I can't believe we're really here. We have to make this the best night of our lives."
"We will cowgirl, we will." The Space Ranger said as he put an arm around her waist.
"As they all say in the movies, this is a night to remember." Pricklepants recited as they all agreed.
