Taking me by the hand, he twirled me a couple of times, and put his hand softly on my back. His touch seemed familiar, but with the mask he had on I couldn't tell who he was exactly. Leaning against me, he whispered something in my ear, but as soon as he said the first word, I froze. A chill raced down my spine and I couldn't make out what he was saying. He looked back into my eyes and leaned down for a kiss.
"Shan?" I said under my breath before he could reach my lips. He jerked off quickly and took me by the hand. "Shannon, is that you?" He was already dragging me through the crowd and into a dark room I never saw before. Closing the door behind us and turning the lights on, he slowly took his mask off.
He looked fine. His eyes ever so green, his cheeks flushed red and full as ever, his lips pressed on one another. But something about him was odd. He seemed sick and unhappy. His hands were still in mine, and he wouldn't let go. He gazed into my eyes and smiled.
Stroking my face, he leaned down for a kiss another time. "Shannon…" I whispered as I started backing off.
"What's wrong? Why won't you kiss me?" He yelled at me, and I could tell he started tearing up. Pulling me closer to him, he asked me again soothingly. "Why won't you kiss me?"
I whipped away the tears across his cheek. "Because I'm afraid to" I murmured, "I'm afraid of what will happen afterward."
"I'll tell you what will happen afterward. You'll marry me and we'll live happily ever after." I couldn't tell if he was serious or just being sarcastic, but I couldn't stop myself from laughing. "Happily ever after," I sighed. "So that's what will happen afterward?" He smiled and nodded gently, "I promise."
Before I could stop him, he had his hands stroking my cheek. "May I?" he asked gently as he bit his lip. "Yes," I smiled, "yes, you may."
But it was me who went for the kiss. I wrapped my arms around his neck and pecked his lips lightly. He then pressed his lips against mine and I could feel him smiling.
"I love you," he whispered.
"And I love you," I whispered back.
