"There are those

in time who

were almost happy.

They were excited,

believing they had

nearly reached their life's goal.

Not only was I there,

I watched again and again

as their hopes were crushed

and an ally went mad.

I watched this and every other

tragedy in the lives

of the heroes unfolded.

I peered through the light,

hoping to find the point

that would save us

from the ruins of the future.

I peered through the light

a thousand times over

and intervened in

many a place

but to no avail.

Trust was still broken.

Lives were still lost.

Entire species were nearly exterminated.

Wars were still fought.

Hope was still dashed.

I began to wonder,

Is there a way?

Is there a way to save us?

As I tried the thousand and oneth

time, I met them.

The friends that I

watched be slowly destroyed.

One asked me,

"What happens? Why are you different?"

I pause and hold my breath,

unsure if the audience

can withstand the stories

I tell.

Unsure if they want to know

all the horrible things

in the past and future.

I close my mouth.

Let them use what

happiness they have left.

They would not believe

the places I have been."

I shook my head and quietly replied,

"The times change you. That's all."
