Al's Merry Christmas
Alphonse POV
I watched her work, bent over a small piece of metal with spindling wires and lines threaded through. I couldn't help but be awed, because I could not hope to ever be able to understand the intricate workings of automail. Finally, I decided to speak. "Winry, is that for brother's arm?" I inquired of her.
She looked up and pushed her long, blonde hair out of her face. "Yes, it is," she answered, looking as though she had never seen me before. She stared for a moment more, and then beckoned me over. Once I got over to her, she pulled out a piece of cloth and began wiping my cheek with it. "There, that looks so much better," she said triumphantly. I glanced into a mirror, and noticed that my cheek was raw.
"Thank you!" I said in response. "Y-you know, Christmas is coming up…" I brought up the subject of my favorite holiday in hopes she would figure out that I… well, never mind.
"What about it?" she replied, perplexed at the sudden change in topic.
"Oh, nothing, nothing at all," I quickly stammered out. "I was just wondering what you were planning to do, since brother won't be here."
"Well, I was planning to spend it here, like every other year," she answered, her suspicion growing. "Unless, you wanted to do something," she added, most likely in response to the crestfallen look on my face.
"Okay, so I could take you out somewhere…"
"That sounds fun!"
"See you."
"Bye!"
ON CHRISTMAS EVE…
It's finally here! Christmas Eve has arrived, and I am taking out the girl of my dreams!
"Winry, are you ready?" I called softly, knocking lightly on her door.
"I'll be out in a second!" she called back. A minute later, she emerged looking simply stunning. She was wearing a long-sleeved black dress with diamond stud earrings and a glittering necklace. In comparison, I looked like a tin can (no pun intended). All I had done in honor of this occasion was wear a dress shirt and put on a bow tie.
"Let's go then!" I could hardly contain my excitement. After all, Winry looks ravishing and Ed isn't here to disturb us, not that I don't like him, but I think Winry likes him more.
I took her out to eat at a fancy restaurant, and afterwards took her out to see a movie. She smiled the whole time, but I could see the exhaustion building inside. After one more time around town, we went home. Her grandmother was waiting outside for us to return. She smiled and beckoned us in, and sent Winry to bed. Winry willingly obliged.
"Um, I think I'll go write in my journal," I said to her grandmother, who was tottering around the house picking up stray pieces of trash.
"Okay, good night," she answered without looking up.
I walked upstairs to my room and wrote down some food that I would like Ed to try when he returns, and then turned off the light and waited for sleep to come. I tossed and turned, but I couldn't sleep, so I listened for noises around the house. I heard nothing. I stood up and slowly opened my door to step out onto the stairs. I walked up the stairs until I got to Winry's room. I looked inside and saw she was asleep, so I tip-toed to her bed and looked down upon her sleeping face.
"Merry Christmas, my love," I whispered before bending down to kiss her. As I kissed her, a clock chimed midnight in the distance. I stood up and smiled before walking back to my own room to dream about the possible future for us.
