What Albus found when he finally forced his way into the bath was a grotesque and bittersweet tableaux.
"Albus?" Minerva called from the front room. "Albus, what's happened?" He heard her coming closer.
"Don't come in here," he warned, unable to tear his eyes away from the scene before him.
"Albus?" There was sharp fear in her voice now, and the headmaster quickly pulled the door shut, turning to face her. He was not conscious of the tears rolling down his cheeks.
She regarded him, confused and frightened, before comprehension filled her gaze. "He's dead, isn't he?" She asked. "Severus is dead."
Albus nodded weakly as he took in a short, ragged breath. "And..." he sobbed, but could not continue.
Minerva's eyes widened and she brought a hand to her mouth, as if to stifle a scream. "Harry," she exhaled.
Albus nodded again
"Let me see."
"No."
"Albus, let me see them."
He shook his head.
"Don't try to protect me."
"From this, I must," he whispered, but in his heart, he knew he would fail. He wanted to fail. He did not wish to be the only one to know this pain.
"They were my students, Albus. My boys. Let me see."
"You don't want to remember them like this," he pressed. "There are things you do not know."
"I know they were father and son-" she began.
"And that makes it so much worse," he finished. "Please, Minerva."
"Let me see."
They eyed each other, Minerva determined and Albus crumbling. Finally, his gaze sliding from hers, Albus put a hand on the doorknob.
"Did you know, too, Minerva," he asked as he pushed open the door, "that they were also lovers?"
She stared at him, incredulous, until the smell of blood demanded that she look inside.
"Merlin," she breathed.
Albus watched her collapse as if in slow motion, powerless to catch her as his eyes were once again drawn to the scene her standing body had blocked.
The water in the white marble bathtub had turned a crystal red, the candlelight glinting in it like fine-cut rubies. Half submerged, Severus and Harry's naked bodies rested against the back of the tub, entwined together, the older man's arms wrapped around the younger's torso. They lay as if asleep, their faces relaxed, their eyes closed in peace.
Albus could just see the long, deep slashes marring their wrists.

A/N:
Go ahead, flame me. It had to be written. I know I'm not the first to think of it.
