Chapter One

I walked down the steps of the Jedi Temple for the last time. I looked back, half expecting to see one of the jedi masters come down and tell him that the Jedi Council had changed their minds, and that I could come back. When nothing came down the steps, I turned around to make his way to the ship that would take him to the farming planet Neo.

In his hands were two bags that contained all of his belongings. Some clothes, food, some pieces that I liked to tinker with. Also, I had smuggled his two lightsabers along with him. One had a standard straight handle, and a small blade I could use just in case the blue energy blade malfunctioned. The other lightsaber had a slight curve on the handle, and this energy blade was green. I could take the hilts and combine them at the bottom to create a double-bladed lightsaber if I needed to. I wasn't a Jedi Knight when it came to fighting with lightsabers, but I had to say, I was pretty good.

I had been kicked out of the Jedi Order. I finally had done it. It wasn't even his fault! One of the older Jedi Initiates had started the fight. He had told me that the worst Jedi Master had picked me to be his apprentice. His master, Jedi Luke Calhoun, hadn't been very successful in the assignments I had been given, but he was a great jedi, and an amazing fighter.

Anyway, little fourteen-year-old me couldn't stand up to the bullies. They were older than him, and even though I was stronger, they had numbers. The teasing had escalated into fighting when one of the boys had pushed me, and it went on from there.

So now, I walked down the steps of the Jedi Temple.

Suddenly, I heard footsteps behind him. I turned, and saw my friend Darius racing to him.

"KaTai!" he shouted in his high voice. Darius was a year younger than me, and his Jedi Master was one of the best.

"Hey Darius," I called back to my friend.

"You weren't gonna leave without saying goodbye, were you?" Darius asked, concerned. He always got attached to things easily, and didn't like when they left without his knowledge. On one mission time, he found a Mastiff and brought it with him on his way home. When his Jedi Master found out he was keeping it in his room, he took it while Darius was at dinner. When he found his room pet-free, he went hysterical.

"I had no choice," I replied sadly. "I had to pack my bags and leave."

"I heard what happened. What happened to the other guys?"

"Nothing."

"Seriously? They started it!"

"I know, but I was the one to start fighting."

"You only pushed him!"

"Apparently, all of the Jedi Council considers that as 'an act of violence.'"

"That's not fair. You should do something about it."

"You wanna go argue with them?"

"You gotta point. So, what planet are you going to?"

"Some farming planet called Neo."

"Maybe when I become a Jedi Master, I can come and visit you."

"Maybe. I heard it's a big planet, though."

After that comment, they stood in silence for a while. Even though I wasn't the best apprentice, he was the only real friend I had at the Jedi Temple. I was gonna miss him.

"Well," I started, "I gotta get going, or else I am gonna miss my ride."

"Bye," Darius said, and his voice cracked. Maybe it was a revelation through the Force, but I suddenly knew what Darius was gonna do, so I ran forward to join his embrace.

"I'm gonna miss you," he said, and I could tell he was crying.

"Cheer up," I tried to console, even though I was on the verge of tears as well.

We both let go, and with that, I picked up my bags, and made his way to the ship that would lead him away from the only home I had ever known.
