The fact of the matter was that he was jealous. But it wasn't like the twisting feeling that tormented his stomach was anything new. Finn had felt jealousy before, he was twenty now, for Glob`s sake. And sometimes, he still got a pang of jealousy when he saw Bonibell Bubblegum, who had given up princessing for a "quiet" life with Marceline the Vampire Queen, her girlfriend. And every so often the tree house would be lonely and quiet without a man-off or BMO to keep things busy. But none of those things seemed to compare to the torture Finn could feel tearing him apart when he saw that dumb Pigs` hoof holding Tree Trunks`.
And as bad as it sounded, Finn loved it when Tree Trunks showed up out of the blue with complaints about Mr. Pig`s nasty habits and how terribly he treated her around other women. Only because those late nights filled with gossip and coffee and star gazing let him pretend that Tree Trunks was HIS girlfriend and that she loved him instead of that filthy, filthy pig.
Once Finn had gone so far as to file a complaint to Lemongrab, who had become more emotionally stable after meeting Lemonfriend and therefore could inherit The Candy Kingdom. And Lemongrab had agreed that Mr. Pig wasn't something that Tree Trunks needed in her life to keep healthy. So he decreed the most logical option, Tree Trunks and Mr. Pig couldn't see each other anymore... Which should've made Finn feel better, but it didn't.
Tree Trunks no longer stayed into the wee hours of the night, it was rare for her to show up at all. So, in response, Finn`s home fell into ruin. He no longer cleaned up after himself in case of a very welcome "unexpected" guest. He stopped shaving, started lounging around in his cocoon all day, and it was very rare to go help anyone, even if they were right outside his front door. Not seeing Tree Trunks was worse than knowing she was miserable in a relationship.
He stood, letting his cocoon pool around his ankles. "Enough!" He shouted, taking the razor to his over grown facial hair a little less delicately than he should have. "If I can`t have Tree Trunks, then... then... ... She deserves to be happy."
"How noble of you, Finn." Finn spun around, terrified of the soft voice. Tree Trunks stood with a soft smile on her green lips. "If I had known all those years ago... but it's too late. I was coming to tell you that Mr. Pig and I have eloped and are runnin` away together."
Finn got down on his knees and pressed his forehead to hers. "Is there any way we can be together?"
"No, Finn. Mr. Pig and I love each other."
"But I love you too."
"I'm sorry, Finn, but I don't..."
"Please don`t go, Tree Trunks. I need you here."
She pressed a kiss against Finn's cheek. "I'll see you again, Finn. Someday. Maybe when this war nonsense is fixed up and the world becomes like it once was."
Finn blinked at her, his blue orbs moist with unspilled tears. "The world is never gonna change, Tree Trunks. You`d have to be crazy to think that."
She smiled knowingly. "Crazier things have happened, Finn. Trust me
