For Tenzy
dance away from the edge
Dom's eyes shine almost silver in the moonlight and Scorpius finds himself transfixed. He snaps out of it though and looks away as soon as he realises that he's staring. If there's anything Dom hates, it's lovesick fools. If there's anything Scorpius hates, it's being one.
He leans on the thick brick of the castle's turret, at the top of the Astronomy tower, staring out over the darkened grounds. "I'm bored," he announces after a few moments of silence.
Dom shifts beside him. He can see the mischievous, plotting look in her eyes without even turning her way. It's a look he knows too well. Of course, she's just as restless as he is.
In one sudden movement, she's pulled herself onto the wall he's leaning on. He jumps back in shock.
He's cool and calculating and she's too reckless, too spontaneous. Her taste for danger is something the two of them may share but the acting without thinking most certainly is not.
She stumbles slightly as she stands and he can't help but worry that she's been drinking again. The worry though, is something he'd never, ever, express. Cold fear has stabbed through his heart at the thought of her falling but he can't say anything. Even just thinking these thoughts makes him feel like an old mother and there's nothing Dom hates more than people telling her what to do.
Dom isn't looking at him so Scorpius pulls himself up beside her before she can do anything stupid. He turns towards her and takes her hands in his. They're small, pale and cold in the cool summer air. She giggles softly and looks at him, tipping her head to the side adorably. "Are we going to dance?" she asks, voice teasing but eyes playful.
She has been drinking, he knows for certain now. She's acting like a child again. It doesn't annoy Scorpius like it should; on Dom's it's rather endearing.
"I'll always dance with you," he says softly, knowing she won't remember this in the morning, and twirls her towards him. He watches where her feet go carefully, guiding her away from the edge. He catches her in his arms and protectively holds her to him. She stares up at him, blue eyes wide. He closes his eyes, drawing on all the self restraint he has. Opening them again he lowers her delicately down to safety. Her feet meet the ground below her softly. She's looking up at him imploringly and he leans down and kisses her once on the forehead. He turns away so he doesn't see her reaction.
