Dreams and nightmares

CSI/CSI: Miami drabble

Ryan an hour siting in front of computer deliberating over hitting Send. It would mean admiting defeat and that wasn't something Ryan did easily. He wasn't a quitter, but he wasn't an idiot either and after all this time it was painfully clear that this particular wall was way harder than his head.

He wasn't Tim Speedle, he was never going to be Tim Speedle and CSI's in Miami didn't want Ryan Wolfe. They had never said it outright but but they made it quite clear in many different ways one didn't have to be a CSI to spot. They had maneged to turn his dream into a nightmare and the fact that it wasn't intentional didn't really help. They had turned his dream into a nightmare and he couldn't even hate them for it. He knew they were hurting and he had been patient with them. He had expected their initial resentment since he heard that he would be taking the place of a teammate who died. He had expected it and accepted it as a small price to pay for becoming a CSI, but it had been months and living with their resentment was getting harder and harder. It was, ironicaly, a look at the calendar that had turned a difficult situation into an unbearable one. Initial resentment implied temporary resentment and after turning a calendar to a new month for a fifth time since he became a CSI he could no longer fool himself.

The situation in Las Vegas was a Godsend, they were desperate enough for staff to accept a rookie still in need of training and the job opening was entirely due to shuffling people between shifts. No hard feelings, no need to resent the new guy.

Decision made, Ryan sent the message that finalised his transfer to Nevada. He had started fresh in new town before and it held no terrors for him. His dream of becoming a CSI may have turned into a nightmare here in Miami but that was no reason to give up on it.
