Gilbert and Sara - The Proposal

They sat at their usual table at the corner café, and ordered their usual Sunday morning breakfast. For Gilbert, 2 eggs sunny side up, cooked through with a piece of focaccia bread and a cup of steaming-hot black coffee. For Sara, a bowl of oatmeal, a pancake topped with blueberries and cream, and a glass of orange juice, freshly squeezed. Hot beverages didn't appeal to her in the mornings, and she no longer felt the need for a caffeine kick as she now woke up alert and fresh, ready to take on the challenges ahead. She began feeling this way the morning after Grissom had professed his undying love and adoration, a moment which would remain forever etched into her soul, a moment she would always go back to when the walls in her head threatened to close in on her and take her back to the dreaded time when she was hopelessly trapped … Grissom would forever be her savior.

As they sat waiting for their breakfast to be served, they casually slipped into another ritual; they simply looked into each other's eyes and were instantaneously lost. It was funny how every time, this would happen for each of them at the exact same moment. Gilbert felt his soul free itself from the confinement of his physical frame and float into Sara's eyes. There he swam deeper and deeper into a heaven so perfect, so blissful, that his sobriety and sanity dissolved into thin air to be replaced with pure ecstasy. His beloved bugs swam around him, countless species the names of which he knew by heart, all whispering, "It's time. It's time.", and he knew that it was so.

He then willed his spirit to return to its vessel, as Sara's also returned. Now they sat face to face, their hearts pounding in perfect harmony, rhythmically chanting Gil-Sara, Gil-Sara, Gil-Sara, and thus the perfect moment came to be.

Gilbert reached into his pocket, pulled out the most perfect little black box since the beginning of time….. and the rest was history.
