It was never meant to be.
"I'm going to America next week." Draco's voice broke the silence between them.
So close, yet so far away
"I see." Hermione smiled and asked. "When are you coming back?"
Silence reigned over them, Draco hesitated whether to reply to her question.
"So..." Hermione urged him to reply, wondering why didn't he reply.
Looking at Hermione's earnest face, he whispered to her 'I'm not coming back.'
He waited anxiously for Hermione's reply, hoping for Hermione to stop him.
Stop him from pursuing his dream, so that they can be together.
"Oh..." Hermione's voice faded. He turned away from Draco, pretending to be busy packing the stuff on his table.
''He chose career over me" Hermione thought.
but she couldn't be selfish, not this time. It have always been Draco's dream to be a auror in America.
Now he got the chance, she can't stand in the way. His way.
Hermione turned to Draco and tried her best to show on her most convincing smile to him.
"You will be successful! You might even become the most sought after auror." Hermione congratulated him.
Draco smile faltered a little, 'So this is what she thinks?'
Draco took a step back, Hermione looked at him at the sudden movement.
"I...I got to go. Last minute packing.." Draco stuttered.
The sudden hit of emotions overwhelmed him, he cannot take it any longer.
Hermione nodded, back to packing her table again.
Slowly, he walked to the door. Draco wished that she'd come running and whisper in his ears "Don't go"
she never did.
