Always the Miscreant

It was always going to be this way, wasn't it? He would always find himself like this, locked up and away from everything that he worked so hard to create. He would always be the one that was walked upon- figuratively and literally- no matter how hard he tried to change it.

It would only be a few centuries, Barnabas. It would only be a few more centuries.

He could try again then. Maybe things would be better then. Maybe things wouldn't quite so difficult as they were now. In this age that he was so unfamiliar with... It hadn't been so long since he had become acquainted with it and now he was leaving it behind already. He would wake up in a whole new time period, and who knew what that would bring.

He may not have understood the glowing lights of a giant Monster or the idea of a Chevy or a small box with a songstress inside of it, but he understood the Collins family more than he could have hoped and more than they could have realized. He wanted to make everything all right for them. He wanted things to be all right for them almost as much as he wanted things to be all right between him and Victoria.

But now, as before, he was powerless. Powerless... helpless... useless...

It would only be a few more decades. A century or two. Then it would be different, Barnabas. Just a few more... long... unending... mortifying... years of torture...
