Fool Me Twice
Christine walked out of the hat shop with no packages. Quickly, she hurried over the de Chagny carriage, opened the door and stepped into it. She found it odd that the driver didn't offer her his hand or open the door for her, but she wasn't about to complain. She was lucky to be riding in such a fine carriage in the first place.
"Home, please," she said, before ducking her head into the warmth and interior of the carriage. She saw the driver nod, and as soon as she shut the door, it took off.
Sitting in silence, Christine gazed out the window. Within a few minutes, rain began to patter onto the window, blurring her vision of the outside. She sighed and leaned back into her seat. Rain always depressed her.
Glancing back out the window a few minutes later, Christine saw the rain coming down harder upon the carriage. She hoped they weren't far from the de Chagny manor.
When the carriage didn't stop half an hour later, Christine began to worry. Had the driver gotten them lost? No, Raoul had said these drivers had been with him for years. There was no way one of them would get lost.
The carriage came to an abrupt stop, and Christine heard the driver shuffle around then jump off of it. The door opened, but all she saw was a hooded figure. He reached in and grabbed her roughly, pulling her out of the carriage. She shrieked, but he silenced her with a gloved hand across her mouth. Using his other arm to hold her around the waist he dragged her into a small house a few feet away from where he had parked the carriage.
Gently but forcefully, the driver pushed her deep into the dark but dry shack. She let herself fall to the floor in a shivering heap. Christine heard him shut the door and walk over to the side of the room. There he lit a candle.
"Who… Who are you?" she asked, breathlessly.
The man laughed quietly with his back facing her. Christine saw him take off the hood and then turn to face her. She gasped when she saw his face.
"Have you forgotten your Angel?" he sang hauntingly.
The End. - Could possibly be continued.
