I meant to post this before December, but hey not everything goes to plan.

So just pretend that it's November right?

But anyway enjoy and I don't own CATS, ya know the drill.

"Talking"

Once Upon a December

She was so pretty. Every part of her was beautiful, her voice, coat, eyes.

'Cori, will you keep your thoughts down? I'm trying to sleep here!'

'Sorry Tanto.'

I got up from my sleeping surface and exited the den I shared with my twin.

The night was clear, no clouds in the sky blanketing the junkyard in silver light, a gentle mist hugging the ground, it's cold vapours sending a shiver through my paws and up my spine. Winter was approaching.

I gently padded past the piles of rubbish, humming a familiar tune to myself, enjoying the peace and quiet.

I listened carefully to my surroundings to make sure I was completely alone, I was. So I gradually let my humming gently get louder as I strode through the junkyard. As I passed dens I heard the gentle breathing of the sleeping inhabitants.

I kept walking until I came to a small clearing with no dens nearby and let my humming turn into the song itself, my song bird's lullaby.

"Dancing bears, painted wings, things I almost remember and a song someone sings, once upon a December."

I sighed, my voice was good but only hers could make it beautiful. "Someone holds me safe and warm; horses prance through a silver storm, figures dancing gracefully…" I trailed off.

If only it was her singing…

Suddenly a figure appeared from the shadows… Jemima…

"Across my memory!" She picked up the tune and walked slowly towards me.

I held out a paw, which she took and we began to waltz around the clearing humming the soft lullaby as I twirled her around and brought her towards me so her back was against my chest.

"Someone holds me safe and warm; horses prance through a silver storm, figures dancing gracefully…"

Her voice was so beautiful that I couldn't help joining in with her.

"Across our memories! Far away, long ago, glowing dim as an ember, things our hearts use to know, things they yearn to remember…"

We continued to spin, her back warm against my chest, I twirled her around slowly, gradually so she came to a stop in front of me, her paws in mine.

We stared into each other's eyes slowly leaning towards each other, our lips mere millimetres apart.

"JEMIMA! Where are you?"

It was her mum Demeter. Jemima looked behind her, the moment lost to the night. She looked at me and sighed.

"I'm sorry Cori, mums looking for me."

I nodded glumly, letting go of her paws. "Go."

She smiled and ran off towards her mother's voice.

"And a song she would sing, once upon a December."

I shivered as I mumbled the last few lyrics, staring after her retreating form as it disappeared into the darkness.

I smiled to myself as I thought about the song. It's not even December yet.

And as if the Everlasting Cat was listening it started to snow.
