Text Messages

She lied on her bed after turning off her personal computer. Bored and lonely, she looked at her cellular phone's calendar. She found out that six days from now, it would be Zick's birthday. She didn't know what to do about it. But after talking to herself, she finally decided to text him.

'Hi. Good morning,' were the words she typed using her cell phone's keypads.

She then hoped he would answer her text message but she hated herself for doing that. She wanted herself to not expect for her bestfriend reply because it would hurt to expect the unexpected. It was about six months they haven't communicated. And she was not even sure if that was still Zick's number.

After twenty minutes, as what she wanted to happen, he replied. 'How are you?'

Very happy, Elena hugged her pillow so tight. Elena did not really want to talk about herself though so she returned his question.

'Fine,' replied Zick.

'It's your birthday next week, huh?'

'Why? When is my birthday?'

'Ahm, December 22? You're going 15, right?'

'Yeah, how did you know that?'

'Aren't we bestfriends?'

'Haha. You have a gift?'

'Hmm. I don't know. Besides, I know you will be given gifts by your other friends anyway.'

'No, they won't. Send me your gift.'

'Why? Do you still have my gift from you last time?'

'Yes.'

'What?

'He still has it?' Elena thought. She was so happy reading all of those things she couldn't even have the time to think what to reply. 'And I thought he didn't like that gift.

'This is the best day ever!'

...

Ten minutes later, Elena decided to send another message to his bestfriend.

She typed these words on her cellular phone: 'You want to go to the movies? I do not think you will enjoy my company though. I think you'll get bored with me.'

She breathed before sending it.

'I hope I'm not creating a mistake. I really like to hang out with him. I know we're so far from each other but I can try to visit Oldmill someday.'

After two minutes, there was still no reply. 'I guess he doesn't want to go,' she thought.

She stood up from her bed and planned to go outside her room but her cellular phone suddenly vibrated.

Her heart pumped faster. She sat on her bed, grabbed her gadget. She opened the messages and saw her bestfriend's name at the first place. She became so nervous to read the contents of the message but she had to fight her nervousness.

She pressed the button with her eyes closed. Then, she slowly opened her eyes and slowly read it.

Her eyes were so sad while she read the message. She read it again from beginning to end. She created tears.

She cried. She hugged her pillow so tight because of depression.

'So he really didn't want to go. And I thought this was the best day ever,' she thought.

This was Zick's message: 'Huh? Movie? Well, I'm just joking about the gift earlier…'

...

Sometimes, simple things done or didn't done by the ones you love will depress you (if it didn't cheer you up.)
