Hermione walked into the great hall that had been decorated for the ball. She walked in straightening her mask. She sat on the side not trying to attract attention. Boys would walk by and smile at her; she would merely nod and watched them walk away. A boy in a white button up shirt and black vest walked up to her. His mask was black with sliver snakes on the sides of the eyes. She recognized his blonde hair and silver eyes, but said nothing. He offered her his hand.

"I'm sorry, I don't like to dance." She avoided his silver gaze.

"Maybe you will like dancing with me." His voice was liquid gold. "Please."

She took his hand and walked onto the dance floor with him. His arm snaked around her thin waist. Girls stopped in their traces to watch this handsome boy dance with this girl who was enclosed in a red ruby mask. Her necklace that had a heart pendent with a lock on it bounced on her skin. When he dipped her his lips brushed past her ear and he whispered,

"I will unlock your heart." Her cheeks turned a pale pink. She spun out of his arms and walked to her friend Ginny who was sitting at the side of the room.

"Help me get away from him." She pointed to the boy being surrounded by girls.

"Why? He's handsome." She stared at the boy.

"Ginny!" Hermione snapped her fingers in front of her friend's eyes. "Please help me escape?" before Ginny could answer, it all happened so fast. The boy caught up with her and a jealous Pansy stole the girls mask.

"Granger! You're the mystery girl Draco danced with!" Draco pulled off his mask and watched in shock as Hermione's eyes filled with tears and she ran out of the hall and out of the castle to the way to Hagrids, but she took a detour and came to a place she came to cry many times. She sat on a big rock and let the tears pour down her cheeks.

Draco walked to the rocks and hid behind the closest one to her, not wanting to get a punch like in third year.

"Hermione, are you okay?" he nearly touched her when she got up in shock.
"Why do you care about a filthy little mud blood like me?" she started to walk away and he caught up. "I was stupid to,"

"To what?"

"Fall in love with you." Draco placed his lips on hers and then looked at her.

"I thought I was the one who was stupid."
