Written for the prompt 'Isolation'.
Ryuuk looked down from his high vantage point at the humans he so enjoyed to play with. They were all intrinsically connected, whether by his Death Note or a certain sugar-high detective but were all so separate too – isolated even.
In terms of isolation L had always been the obvious one, no one knew his real name, his only intimate relationship was with his carer and that was more of an extremely trust-filled servant master thing anyway.
Light, for all his social skills was also a loner, Ryuuk mused. He'd been following Light for years now and could see his closest relationships. If he judges by the amount of non-hostile conversation Light's closest relationship was with… him. Yes, Light was closest to a Shinigami, a careless creature from another world with not even a shred of empathy.
Actually that made some kind of sense.
Near was an obvious choice, even Mello and Matt was detached from the world, other people and each other to a certain extent.
He could see it even in the least obvious of people – Chief Yagami, head of a stable home and a loving family was barely around said family, his wife, although caring would never understand the force and nor would he want her to. The other policemen were bitter from years of service and thus impossible to get close to.
No – if you judged wellbeing by a person's relationships then Ryuuk had only ever seen one person living life to the full. The death god took a large bite from a shiny red apple.
Matsuda, who would've known?
