Is It Any Wonder – A NearXMello Fanfic
Chapter 1 –
"The sunless sky was a sickly shade of lime green, and death roamed as far as the eye could see-"
"BORING!!" The older man was interrupted by an unimportant individual at the back of the room. Mello had always hated these monthly book-readings, for some unintelligible reason it was always somebody who had written an unsuccessful book, and they always had bad titles and even worse pen-names. He wasn't a fan of literature and he could understand creativity, but some people just did the shittiest things imaginable to get attention.
The man at the front, for example, had a large purple afro-wig, wore pink sunglasses and a purple leotard; his pseudonym was 'Wilfred McSnotbutt' and his book was humourlessly entitled 'A Boring Book'. Previously uncreative titles of books he had to endure listening to for an hour a month included: 'Dull Book'; 'Bad Book'; 'Don't Read Me'; 'I Am A Book'; 'Yet Another Jane Austen Rip-Off' and 'The Least Entertaining Novel In History Since The Autobiographies Of A Certain Unnameable Individual'. And what was even more ironic was the fact that this was only the second page...after twenty-five minutes even Roger got bored and kicked the un-entertaining moron out and when somebody had the courage to ask him why he did it, Roger just replied that it wasn't as sleep-inducing as 'Dull Book'.
The rest of the week proceeded as usual, in English class the half-French, half-Norwegian sack of jolliness gave the students a quiz on war poetry and Mello was second (as usual) to Near.
Second...it was a word that Mello was all to familiar with...every single day, every single time there was some sort of test or examination, he always came second to Near. It was always a close second but that didn't matter, second was second and nothing would ever change that...
And like every other ordinary day, he would always try taking his anger out on Near and he would almost-always be interrupted by something else, whether it was Matt, Linda or the mandatory monthly book-reading, although one time he did manage to stuff Near into the refrigerator, he was foiled by Roger's almost-instant need to use the chamber of rapidly-freezing food products.
But this time would be different, he would make sure nothing would interrupt his plans for vengeance on the young albino...
That night Mello quietly sneaked into Near's room, to his astonishment, the soon-to-be victim of his latest psychopathic plan was awake and evidently expecting his entry. A moment of awkward silence loomed in the mist, both boys were looking at each other. Near (as usual) was unemotional while Mello was literally glaring daggers at the younger boy. Mello finally yelled in a quiet manner (as no not to wake everybody else)
"I fucking hate you..." with a slightly more human look on his face, Near responded,
"I love you..."
