Unfaithful –Rihanna
"Have a good time in Scotland, honey, and don't let those nasty Scots take away the rest of our Empire!" Katerina calls as I walk out to the door to where Volger is
waiting impatiently. "I won't" I promise, "Be safe". She nods and returns to planning her wedding, our wedding. I feel guilty lying to her, but I need to see Deryn one
last time before I get married. I know our affair is wrong but I love her so much, she is my world, my life. I know I cannot ever be with her but it hurt too much to stay
away. I can't tell Katerina though, it would kill her; I care for her, I really do but I don't love her. My heart sinks as I realize that I will always have to do what is best for
the Empire if you could even call it that anymore, it's just Austria. I close my eyes and take a deep breath as I ready myself to see Deryn one last time.
Die Perfekte Welle –Juli
I close my eyes as I let the water wash away the pain. The year is 1918 and I am spending my last day with Alek at the beach, the wet, sandy beach. We are sitting in
the water together, not talking, just sitting and savoring our last moments together before Alek has to return to Austria-Hungary, no, just Austria. I know I should tell
him my secret but I can't bear to ruin our last moments together but the words tumble from my mouth unbidden. "Alek, I'm a girl." I close my eyes; I don't want to see
the look of hatred in his eyes as he turns to look at me. But he simply turns to me and says, "I know. What is your real name?" "Deryn." I stammer. "Pretty" he says
"Ich liebe dich, Deryn." I sit in shock for a moment. "Ich liebe dich auch, Alek."
