Friends or Lovers?

The case in this neighborhood wasn't like the case from the Latino community, and it upset Eric badly. He didn't want to fight with anyone even though they called him a traitor. His friends turned their backs on him and it upset him badly. He just couldn't face going home to an empty house, and so he asked Calleigh if he could spend the night with her.

"As a friend, yes," she had answered.

That night they were alone, no work, no cases and no samples. Just time for a couple good friends to get know each other better.

"I brought a bottle of wine." Eric said.

"Trying to get me drunk?"

"C'mon, Calleigh, just kick back and enjoy it, besides, I'll be a perfect gentleman."

She laughed loudly because of the Don Juan expression on his face.

"Do you think I have designs on you?" Eric smiled so sweet he looked like a little boy.

"No, of course not, I know that you will behave, it was just your expression. I'm sorry." It had worried her at last she knew that he was trustful.

"It's OK, let's just forget it." Eric said.

She held up her glass and he poured wine into it. They spent the next hour chatting leisurely about family, friends and plans.

"You know, Calleigh, the first day that I saw you in the lab, I fell in love with you."

"Now you are joking."

"I was talking to Horatio about the way the lab is run and you came into the room."

"I never thought that you noticed me." She was ashamed after all she never thought he could be in love with her.

"And you have always thought of me as a friend." His eyes showed some disappointment.

"Maybe yes, maybe no." She got up, picked up the bottle and poured the last of it into her glass.

"Calleigh, what are you saying, that you like me?" Eric was smiling, his eyes were shining.

She sipped the wine, "This is very good." She looked at him over the rim of the glass.

"Calleigh, don't play with me," he pleaded.

"Why, still in love? I thought you were no longer interested."

"I never said that."

"Why do you want to know if I like you? Does it make a difference?"

"I thought you only saw me as a friend and nothing more."

"Tell me you still love me." And she nearly fell onto the couch.

"You're drunk, you better sleep it off. Here let me help you." He helped her up and steadied her as they headed for the bedroom. Then he lay her gently on the bed.

She pointed at him, "I may be drunk, but I know that I like you."

"Rest.tomorrow you will have forgotten all about this."

She pulled him down to her and kissed him passionately. He returned the kiss and their lovemaking help the sweetness of two lovers finding each other for the first time.
