'Tadashi…you were always the brave one. The selfless one. The dependable one. Even when he disappointed you, you were right there for him, saving him from everything. Even himself.' Honey Lemon stood in the hallway of the café/home of her…..what to even call him? Boyfriend was too trite, lover too sensual to completely grasp the entirety of the relationship….husband…..that would never be now. Her other half was close to the truth she concluded, fingering the delicate rose gold ring on the chain around her neck. The yellow diamond glinted softly back at her, bringing a soft smile to her face at the memory of when he asked her….but that life is over now.

A small tear traced down her cheek, and she wiped it away quickly. Her attention refocused on her would-have-been little brother, who was trying valiantly to hold it together for his aunt/mother. Her eyes softened at the boy, so young to have lost so many. Bringing the ring to her lips she kissed the diamond softly, wishing again that it was his lips she met with her own.

'This I swear Tadashi, I will protect him for you. I will step into that hole you left behind, and I will guard him against all comers. I may not be the strongest, or the fastest, but I will be the smartest guardian he's ever going to have. We may have lost our chance at a happy ending, but I swear that he will have the best one I can possibly give him.'

Honey, in a black sheath dress that didn't match her normal personality at all, gathered her strength around her and moved over to where Hiro was slouched on a loveseat near his Aunt. She gracefully seated herself next to him and put her delicate arm around his slight shoulders. At first, he resisted, eventually relaxing into her hold. His unruly mass of black hair came to rest against her slight shoulder and she set about running slender fingers through it in an attempt to put some kind of order to it. Her green eyes slid closed as she felt Hiro finally give in to his grief and cry into the soft wool of her dress.

'I will be strong for the little brother you loved so, my darling. Don't worry, I've got him.'
