Gabe yawned, stretching as he sat up and slid his legs over the edge of his bed. Rubbing the sleep from his eyes, he paused when a soft knock sounded at his door.

Who could that be? He wondered, for he didn't receive many visitors at the door to the captain of the guard's private quarters. His men knew better than to disturb him unless it was an emergency and the palace staff usually steered clear of the guard barracks–– it was each guard's duty to keep his own space neat and tidy, especially the captain of the guard.

Puzzled, he got up, his bare feet padding across the carpeted floor as he made his way to the door. Gabe considered stopping to put his royal guard jacket back on over the t-shirt he wore, but decided against it, just in case it was an emergency.

Opening the door, his furrowed eyebrows and his alert guard captain frown split into a wide smile, his eyes lighting up as he took in the petite blonde glaring up at him, her arms crossed.

Before he could greet her, she spoke up, poking a finger to his chest, "You are so frustrating all the time with your perfect eyes! That cute face!" She took half a step closer and groaned, "Ugh! And you smell so good! Can you just, not! For once?"

Cocking his head to one side, Gabe raised an eyebrow as he said, "Er–– I just woke up from a nap."

"And yet, here you are! Still perfect!" She threw her hands in the air in surrender, but he could see her lips twitching as she tried not to smile.

Grinning, Gabe gathered her in his arms and hugging her to him, said, "I missed you too, Nomes."

Naomi slipped her arms around his waist, burying her face in his chest. Smiling happily, she said, "I saw that Rico and the other guards were back from the field exercise so I assumed you were back too. Sorry if I woke you, but I couldn't wait, it feels like forever since––" she paused, uncertainty clouding her tone as she squeezed him more tightly, her fingers pressing into the muscles of his back.

"Hey, it's fine! Don't worry about it," he brought a hand up and gently directed her chin up so he could meet her gaze. Smiling softly, he kissed her once before continuing, "I was just waking up anyways. We marched all night and just got back about an hour ago. I thought I'd squeeze in a quick nap and wash my face or something before coming to find you, but––" he grinned cheekily, "apparently it was unnecessary because I'm perfect no matter what."

Laughing, Naomi grinned as she leaned into him, slipping her arms up around his neck and pressed a soft kiss to his lips, murmuring, "I've missed you and your perfect self. Come on, we've got some catching up to do." She grinned slyly and took his hand, urging him to go with her.

"Er–– Nomes? Can I at least put on my boots first? And maybe a shirt?"

Naomi looked him up and down, letting out a giggle as she sighed dramatically, "Fine, the boots, yes. But––" she eyed the close fitting t-shirt that he typically wore beneath his guard uniform top and raised an eyebrow, "I'm not sure about the top," she ran a hand along his arm, "I kinda like the t-shirt."

"Nomes, my eyes are up here," Gabe grumbled playfully, "I'm starting to think you just like me for my muscles."

"And your pretty face," Naomi said lightly before she gave him a little shove, "Now, go. Get your boots and your shirt so we can be on our way!"

Grinning, Gabe leaned down for one more kiss before turning back to his room and calling over his shoulder, "Ok, ok! I'm going!"

Naomi waited in the doorway as he put himself back together, eager for a few hours alone to catch up with this man she loved after so many weeks apart. That was her personal definition of perfection.
