The sakura petals floated downwards

The sakura petals floated downwards. As the wind caught the fragile pink petals, they parted and swirled into gentle whirlwinds, to fall finally onto the ground below. It was early April, the beginning of an end to wet rains and herald to the oncoming clear spring weather. It was cold, although the temperature was not bitterly frosty like the iciness of winter, or the coldness of the boy's heart whom walked in front of Duo.

The brown hair boy walked rapidly ahead, his back straight and his attention fixed directly ahead. The petals of the sakura flower drifted by him, brushing against the rough cotton of the boy's denim jacket before drifting slowly towards the gutter of the street, to rot with the other discarded petals. One of many millions.

Duo looked at the fallen petal as he walked on by behind Heero. Although forgotten by others, they were still beautiful, despite their fading colour. Come the hot humid summer, they would be all gone. However their memory would still exist in his mind. Even if not in the mind of the boy walking before him. Heero stopped suddenly. Surprised by the abrupt action, Duo nearly tripped into him as he stopped too.

'What's wrong?'

'Nothing,' replied Heero tonelessly. He lifted up his right hand and pointed. 'Look.'

Before them, a strong gust of wind had blown thousands upon thousands of pale pink sakura blossoms into a vivid display of stormy swirls. Fallen petals from the street gutters were also lifted up the strength of the wind, and danced along side with the new, granted life once more. The wind was shockingly cold as it howled past them, carrying the swirling petals further. It leant a romantic softness to the otherwise dreary grey scenery of buildings. Duo smiled in delight as the petals flew around him, his arms crossed protectively against his chest as the wind also chilled his skin underneath his thin clothing.

'Beautiful, isn't it?' Heero said softly.

The brown hair boy removed his jacket and draped it unexpectedly around the other's shivering shoulders. Duo felt the warmth of the jacket against him. He looked up into the seemly cold blue eyes of the brown hair boy. The surface belied the soul underneath.
