/Whoever you are- I've always depended on the kindness of strangers- Blanche (streetcar named desire)/

She remembered the day he burst into he life. Black eyes glimmering…

Green jumpsuit hanging on his small body.

She remembered the look of sheer determination on his face.

In that moment he promises to protect her forever.

She found it cliché…still finds it cliché sometimes.

Even so, he promises to dedicate his last breath to her.

In the moment Sakura has never felt so safe, so in awe, so…beautiful.

Later Sakura will acknowledge the split second she thinks life with him wouldn't be so bad.

If only because he loved her.

Valued her.

Revolved his very being around her…and she never had to earn it.

So now Sasuke is gone.

And she misses him a lot of the time.

But time has taught her things.

Taught her that some wounds can't be healed.

Taught her that sometimes there really ISN"T anything anyone can do.

Taught her that strength isn't THAT important…especially not the kind she once believed in.

That some dreams…really just are dreams…unattainable and out of reach.

And most importantly, what you think you need isn't always what makes you happy….

And what you think will make you happy, isn't always what you need.

So Lee promises to dedicate his life to her.

Promises this and expects nothing in return.

Lee never HAS broken a promise.

In this way Lee is strong…strong and beautiful.

But Sakura is too old to lie about her strength.

'Cause she could make mountains crumble…

And still cry over a sprained heart.

Because Sakura still misses Sasuke….perhaps she even LOVES Sasuke.

But Lee loves Sakura.

And she is not strong enough to give without getting.

Nor is she noble enough or patient enough or anything else a good selfless peroson is.

Because-honestly- Sakura would rather BE LOVED and teach herself to love…

Than love and NEVER have it returned.

She supposes it is her weakness.

Kakashi-sensei once said it was her strength.

But Sakura is not strong. Lee is.

So when Lee promises to defend her no matter what, she believes him, leans on him, needs him…and begins to let Lee become her strength.

For this is where Sakura knows her strength really is.

In the future.

In Lee.

Because when Sakura takes a step forward…

She never looks back.
