Something just didn't feel right. I was being watched but had no idea by who. I was on my way to get me gym bag out of my locker when it happened. His dark shadow loomed up in front of me. A wicked smile crossed his face as he placed a finger to my forehead. I gasped at the sharp pain then everything went black with me slapping hard against the floor.
When I woke up I was laying on what felt like a hospital bed a woman was leaning over me. When she spoke her voice was like beautiful shards of glass " hello Anna Beth, my name is Neferat. And I am the High Priestess here at the House of Night. I must say you had quite a black out back at your school."
My mind still foggy from sleep I stammered, " What are you talking about? Why am I here?" I couldn't even began to believe what she was saying. I what not about to become one of the night children.
Neferat's smile was a warm one but there was something in the glint of her eyes that made me feel at unease. " There is no need to be afraid. I am simply here to help you. Anna Beth, you have been chosen by the Goddess Nyx. It is a great honor to be blessed with a… mark like yours. I must say I have never seen anything like it."
Ok so I am not the kind of person who has ever like the vampyres. In fact I always hated them. I didn't believe in a god, I didn't believe in anything so to me this was a load of crap. " Not to be rude or anything, but over my dead body am I going to be one of you and join this little school of yours. Thanks for the whole offer and everything but I don't believe in a higher being." With that I slide of the bed and made my way toward the door. So I'm not the nicest person ever (maybe why I have no friends) but she blocked my way.
Her voice sounded sad and like she almost cared about what happened to me. " I am sorry to inform you but if you leave you with have no chance of surviving out there. You must always be around others of you kind of you will get. There is a lot to learn about our world , so much that I cant tell you all of it now but here is a student guide that should help you.
I took the booklet of her hand a threw it in the garbage, " I know about the vampyres. Once I wrote a thirty page essay on you and your world so I don't need any help from a book. Yeah, I know a lot of people aren't always right about all of you by what they post on the internet but I have had enough encounters to know I want nothing to do with it nothing."
Anger passed through her eyes but was gone in a second and the look of pity and sadness returned. " I know what you must think of us from the humans but we are nothing like what they say we are. And I cant stress how important it is that you stay here or you will die. Please Miss Anna Beth stay."
Looking at her face I knew she meant what she said so I decided I would stay long enough to give the place a try but I didn't completely trust any of it. " Yeah sure I'll but I once read that you let kids change their named here so I want to be called Beth Kiss." I let a hint of smile show on my face.
Neferat smiled back a me, " Excellent! But if you don't mind me asking why Beth Kiss? Why not Anna Kiss or some other last name?"
" Oh well I grew up listening to Kiss music and one of my favorite songs is Beth. Also I hated the fact people always called me two names, Anna Beth." I made my famous yuck face at that.
Her smile turned into a full blown grin. "Very well then Beth Kiss! Welcome to your knew home the house of night.
