A/N: a prompt from Sheevera on Tumblr :)
Cass pulled the police cruiser beside the apartment building. A week of wrestling, two weeks worth of cop work. Working both jobs was grueling, but the hours balanced themselves out and was padding his wallet pretty well. And the community work was all worth it. Cleaning up the streets, one bad guy at a time. Now he had Chinese food in the passenger seat and a bag of catfood.
So Josie had been a temporary thing. He'd found the poor ginger kitten soaking wet in the street and felt sorry for the poor thing. But the shelters were all closed when he found her. So defeatedly, he brought the little thing home. A warm, dry towel in a cardboard box in the kitchen. A little bit of ham torn up in a dish for it. He'd take it to the shelter in the morning. Every morning for the next week he woke up with the little kitten curled on his chest, sleeping soundly. He lost all conviction to take her to the shelter. Maybe having someone waiting for him at home wouldn't be a bad thing.
Cass slid the key into his door lock, balancing the cartons of food against his side. Startled blue eyes met his as soon as he walked through the door. "Oh hey, Cass-" Cass stepped through the doorway, sighing at the intrusion. ThiRd time this week. "Hey Zo." A smile spread across Enzo's face as he stood behind the counter, stroking Josie's tail. "Climb up the fire escape again Zo?" Enzo nodded. "You really gotta lock your window, Cas." "Lock's broken. I keep telling the landlord." Enzo headed for the couch, the ginger cat cradled in his arms as he scratched her behind the ear. "I just came to see your girl, anyway." Cass briefly considered just telling Zo to take her home if he liked her so much, but he didn't really want to think about giving up the little furball. Cass sat on the couch too, two forks in hand, and passed Zo one without asking. Good thing he'd thought to buy extra this time. Just in case Zo was there. May as well give the guy a key to the apartment. Wasn't like Zo wasn't his best friend anyway. "So how was your day?" Enzo asked. "Slow." Cass replied before eating a piece of chicken from one of the cartons, passing Zo the other. Cass felt around the couch cushions, finally discovering the remote, and turning it to a basketball game. Enzo tore a small piece from his chicken wing and fed it to Josie. Yeah. It was nice having someone waiting at home for him, after all.
