What Did You Do, Catherine?
"You're being ridiculous."
"I don't think so. You got him freaking promoted, Catherine. It seems like you're always at his beck and call; you take his calls no matter what. Last night, for example." Vartann crossed his arms over his chest and frowned like a petulant child.
Catherine put her elbows on her desk and laced her fingers together. She rested her chin on her knuckles and let out a long breath. She cocked her head to the side and contemplated the man in one of her visitors chairs. She shook her head and smiled a bit to herself as she pulled out her cell. She sent off two quick texts, and moments later, Greg and Nick showed up in the doorway.
"What's up, Cath?" Nick asked. "Oh, hey, Lou," he added as he noticed the obviously pissed off man in the chair.
"Nick, Greg," Vartann ground out, not looking at either of them.
Catherine motioned them in and closed the door behind them and leaned against it, her hands looped behind the small of her back. "Nick, Greg. I called you both in here because Lou and I were having a discussion and we need you to settle something for us…"
"Jesus, Catherine, what are you doing?" Vartann groaned and ran his hands over his face.
Catherine continued, despite the detective's obvious discomfort. "Nick, Lou seems to think I have a…thing for you." Greg snorted and Nick dropped his jaw in disbelief. "I was hoping that you and Greg could…I don't know…demonstrate why that's ridiculous." Greg and Nick simultaneously cocked their eyebrows at Catherine, who smiled at them broadly, then turned the look on each other. They shrugged in unison and Nick grabbed Greg's hand, pulling him towards him. He reached his other hand up to tangle in the hair at the back of Greg's head and pulled him until their mouths crashed together. They both smiled into the kiss as they heard Vartann swear under his breath. They pulled back and looked each other in the eye, then turned and looked at Catherine, grinning from ear to ear. They all three looked at Vartann, his hand over his eyes and his face six shades of red. The three CSI's burst into laughter. Greg and Nick took a seat on either side of Lou and draped arms around his shoulders. "You're really more our speed than Cath is," Greg said slyly, grinning maniacally. "Yeah, and she's like my big sister. That's just gross," Nick added, smiling as he squeezed Lou's shoulders conspiratorially. Vartann jumped out of the chair and turned to face the guys, eyes darting uncomfortably from one man to the other. He rubbed the back of his neck. "Sorry, I didn't know…but I guess your secret's safe with me." The guys looked at each other again and laughed. "Lou, I'm pretty sure you're the only one who didn't know, but it's not like we were hiding it, or anything." Greg said. "Yeah, we assumed you knew. Sorry man," added Nick.
"Right, so I guess I'm just going to get back to work. Catherine, talk to you later."
"Yes. I think you're buying me dinner. Someplace nice."
"Right." Vartann nodded to the men in the room as he exited.
"Boys, thanks," Catherine said to Nick and Greg. The three of them looked from one to the other for a moment, and then all three of them broke out in raucous laughter, holding their guts and wiping tears from the corner of their eyes. "Oh my god, did you see his face?" They regained control of themselves and Catherine told them to get back to work, smiling to herself.
