Airwolf is somebody else's, probably Universal's or Bellisarius', and I freely admit that whoever's it is, I'm borrowing their show and they retain all rights, etc.
This is the fifth instalment of stories that I'm writing to cover the period between the end of the 3rd season and the beginning of the 4th. If you have read the other four, (Single Parent Hawke, The Jade Wolf, The Truth About Caitlin and Old Friends, New Enemies), you can skip straight to the story in the next chapter…or read this brief recap of the story so far.
Stringfellow Hawke has said farewell to Le, the boy he incorrectly believed to be his nephew. Le is now living in Seattle with his newly found mother, Ana. Caitlin O'Shaunessy also admits to Hawke that she's thinking about leaving. Hawke desperately wants her to stay but is fearful that admitting his feelings may lead to yet another tragedy in his life. Missions get in the way of a quick resolution and Caitlin is shot saving Hawke's life. She almost dies and Hawke realises his feelings for her as he remains at her bedside. But after her mother pleads with him to do what is necessary to keep Caitlin safe, Hawke tells Caitlin that he thinks she should go back to Texas with her parents and he walks away from her.
A month later, Hawke is missing Caitlin and he is beginning to question the decision he made. He and Dominic Santini call on their old friend Jason 'Doc' Gifford, when a mission to rescue a CIA agent, Tania Bening, in Berlin requires additional assistance. The mission is a success as they rescue Tania and there is a spark of attraction between her and Hawke. However, there is a spark of enmity between her father, a retired General, and Hawke when they realise Tania's newly found adoptive daughter is a fake, part of a terrorist group planning to kill the President. Airwolf flies into Russia to protect Airforce One. When they return home, Doc visits with Hawke and advises his friend to go to Texas and tell Caitlin how he really feels before it's too late and she moves on with her life.
Before Hawke can consider it fully, Tania Bening asks him to do another mission; rescue her real daughter from Yugoslavia. Hawke, along with and Michael Coldsmith-Briggs III all go to perform the rescue which is a success. Tania visits Hawke to thank him. She kisses him but when he doesn't respond, she guesses there is someone else on his mind. She warns him to watch his back in regards to her father. It is a timely warning as Hawke receives a visit from General Bening who initially offers Hawke the same deal as the one he has with Michael but when Hawke refuses it, quickly threatens him. Hawke informs Michael and they decide to keep Airwolf quiet for a while; Hawke even acquiesces to a computer upgrade of her systems. Hawke returns to Santini Air and calls a vacationing Dom to tell him about Bening and that he's decided to go to Texas; he's going to ask Cait to come home. When he puts the phone down and turns around, Caitlin is standing in the office door. Hawke kisses her soundly and a happy Caitlin agrees to give him a second chance.
And now the next instalment: Hawke's Wolf.
