This was a school assignment. It is based on a short story called The Sniper. When I read the ending, I thought of Ed and Al. When I found out there would be an assignment to write a letter to the mother of the Sniper, I just HAD to make it Ed and Al. I'm sorry if this offends anyone. It was only a school assignment. Please enjoy and review!

Dear Mother,

How are you? I guess there's no use keeping this from you. I killed Alphonse. When we went off to war, we told you everything would be alright. Unfortunately, things didn't go as planned. After a while, we started to have different views on what we were fighting for. Al became a Freestater, and I became a Republican. I'm sorry mother. I didn't know it would end up like this. I was stationed on a rooftop that night. There was no light, not even the moon was shining. I lit a smoke, and that what started it all. Another sniper saw the little light and shot at me. I devised a plan to make the other sniper think I was dead, and then to shoot him. It worked. He was a good shot, like myself. So I decided to see who he was. When I looked at his face, I was stunned. I never thought Alphonse would die in war, let alone at my hands. I had hoped for us to come home together after the war, and forget about the two sides. Now my dream is shattered. I can never forgive myself for this horrible sin. When I finish writing this letter I will take Al's body to the top of a nice hill, and then kill myself. My cross is too heavy to bear any longer. I know this is hard for you, but please forgive me. Thank you for raising me and Al all these years. Thank Dad for us too. I've enclosed a picture of Al and me from one of the first days we arrived in Ireland. Please forgive me.

Goodbye.

Sincerely,

Edward Elric
