Waiting in the crowd with all my friends I should feel safe, I mean it was only my first year, hardly anyone gets picked in their first year, right? Maybe it's the blood still pouring out my finger, or the bright colours of Effie's wig but I start to feel dizzy and sick. I search for Katniss, or my mother but there's hundreds of us here, I may as well give up looking, it'll be over in 10 minutes anyway then I can go home. Home, The small house on the seam that houses me, my mother, Katniss, Lady, and my cat Buttercup, it's hard to think that our drafty house, and mangy animals make me feel secure and calm. My serene day dream of home is interrupted by Effie's piercing voice. Me and Katniss used to spend sunny afternoons under the old willow tree near the hob imitating her screeching capitol accent. I must of missed the film Katniss said was shown every year, to be honest I'm glad, it would have only prolonged my anxiety anyway. I must have been daydreaming for too long, Effie in her spring green suit and candy pink hair announces "Ladies first!" I hold my breath as her pale hand reaches into the clear globe and pulls out a slip of paper, who would it be this year? My classmates? My friends? Well whoever it was to be I was almost certain they wouldn't return. District 12 never win, the victors are usually from district 1, 2, or 4, the wealthier districts. Effie clears her throat, unfolds the paper, and announces "Primrose Everdeen!"
