Thunder roared in the night sky, creating anything but excitement for me. Less than seconds later, a long, skinny line of lightening illuminated my dark room. The wind howled, pushing the branches of the oak tree against my window effectively producing fear within me. I cowered under my covers, repeating to myself, it's all going to be a-okay. Before, I could believe it, another round of thunder boomed. I whimpered into my pillow, quietly crying.
Suddenly, something grasped my shoulder causing me to yelp in fright. I created a tiny hole in my covers to see my mom's eyes looking worriedly at me.
"Sweetie, it's okay. Mommy's here." She began placing little butterfly kisses all over my head, placing herself in the covers with me. "Want me to stay, Lexie?" My breath was still shaky so, I just stuck with nodding. Mom snuggled closer to me holding me protectively. Slowly, I began succumbing into darkness. However, before I could surrender myself to sleep, thunder roared louder than before. My eyes were wide once again.
"Lexie, sweetie, want me to tell you a story?" I nodded. "Hmm, okay which one do you want to hear? Cinderella? Beauty and the Beast? Princess and the Frog? The Little Mer-"
"Mommy, I want to hear the Mommy and Daddy story. You know, your story." I looked up at her giving her the biggest pout known to mankind. Mom started taking in deep, shallow breaths. She looked so torn and unsure of herself.
"Um, how about we save that for another day? It's really late. And the story is really long. You have school tomorrow. You have to be up early. You're going to be so tired." She rushed out a bunch of poor excuses.
"Mom, tomorrow there's no school, it's Saturday morning. Also, I will already be tired so it's no big deal. And Mom, I have time." She started biting her lip keeping her gaze focused on the covers.
"Fine. You win."
