Bellatrix Lestrange was not in a laughing mood. It was three o' clock in the morning and she was on a mission for the Dark Lord by herself and she had to prove that she didn't need any back up. Just because she was a woman didn't mean that she wasn't as efficient as a male. She mentally snorted at the thought; she was much more capable than a man. She apparated to the desired location and fished her out of her robes. She took a deep breath before muttering a charm to unlock the door. She slipped through the door and slowly walked up the stairs so that the hard wood floor wouldn't creek. She opened the bedroom door and found the very man she had to kill wrapped up in the embrace of his wife. She pointed her wand at him and whispered the killing curse (she wasn't in the mood to torture anyone today); shivering in delight at the bright green light that appeared as he died. She did the same for his wife and got ready to leave again when a high pitched wail cut through the air.
She closed her eyes briefly and made her way to the room next door to find an infant crying in his crib. She looked down at him and felt panic overcome her. She didn't know what to do with the child. Merlin knows that she wasn't the mothering type. She was just going to leave the baby crying but a feeling in her gut told her it wasn't the right thing to do. She may be a mass murderer but she wasn't so cruel as to torture a baby.
She bent down and touched the baby's soft cheek and whispered a soft melody she heard a mud blood sing to her child before she killed her. She modified the words a bit to fit the mood.
Why do you tremble?
Why do you weep?
Hush little baby...
Now please go to sleep.
I am near,
so please dry your tears,
and tell me
WHAT DO YOU FEAR?
She didn't know what she was doing but the baby's cries slowly started dying down. She continued singing her mind made up. She wasn't going to let this child grow to taint the wizarding world with his impure blood. She moved her wand slowly and pointed it to his head. She was going to kill the baby in its sleep where it won't feel any pain. He'll have a short painless death. It was for the best.
Now hush little baby...
Please don't you weep,
soon you'll be in an eternal sleep.
The sirens grow near
and the pain moves on.
I whisper in your ear,
now tell me,
WHAT DO YOU FEAR?
She whispered the killing curse as the last words of the melody died down on her lips; and she slowly made her way out of the house feeling self-satisfied, yet a little guilty. She pushed the guilt aside and allowed her satisfaction overcome her. She had fulfilled her goal; she shall never be underestimated again. She apparated away from the house, the melody still in her head. She hummed along as she reached her house. She took one last look at her wand and the face of the little boy came back to her as she whispered the last words of the lullaby,
WHAT DO YOU FEAR?
