This is my first-ever posted fanfiction. Honestly, I'm a little nervous...I know it's not that good, I just felt like finally posting something. And I guess if someone likes it I will continue it. Reviews and critiques are welcome! :)

Reunification Day

Gilbert awoke with a start, sweat coming down his forehead in thin droplets. Although the weather was getting rather cold this past month, he could feel an overwhelming heat crushing him. He looked at the digital clock on his bed stand. The red numbers on it showed 6:41. Ah well, he thought, no point in trying to fall asleep again now. The past night had been an unpleasant one, with visions haunting the Prussian's conscience every time he closed his eyes. They were dreams of the distant past, when he had still been a young nation, looking for a way through life. He also dreamed of a more recent time, one that couldn't escape his mind lately.

Prussia straightened up on his bed and rubbed his eyes. If only he had gotten some more rest… The man dressed in jeans and a simple tee with a bird on it and set out to make some breakfast. It was too early for his brother to have woken up, so he might as well do something productive like cooking. Frankly, the only thing he knew how to make was an omelet, a dish Francis had taught him a long time ago. Gilbert gathered the products he needed quietly, careful not to wake Germany up, and started preparing his meal.

By the time he was finished, the sun had risen up in the sky and birds had begun chirping their daily melodies. Gilbert would listen to them occasionally, sometimes even humming along. They were quite a good company, he dared say. The door to the small kitchen opened, snapping Prussia from his reverie, and Germany came in, all tangled hair and a sleepy expression.

"Morning," The blonde yawned hugely and sat on the table next to the window.

"Guten Morgen, West!" The albino grinned. "I made you an awesome breakfast."

He set the omelet in front of the other. Germany just stared in amusement. The dish wasn't half bad, Prussia thought.

"Thank you, bruder." The younger nation blushed slightly, like he did every time someone did something for him. "It looks good."

"It better be!" The albino gave a short laugh.

West took a bite from his meal and nodded in agreement. After he had finished, he raised his head to look at his brother. "How early did you wake up?"

Gilbert crossed the room to leave the empty plate in the sink and opened the fridge to pour some juice. "Not that early, a few minutes before you-"

He broke up midsentence, his attention caught by a piece of paper on the door. It was a calendar, with dozens of marking for meetings and conferences with politicians and other countries.

"Is something wrong?" Ludwig walked behind him, interested to see what his brother was looking at. He stopped, seeing today's date: October 3rd.

"I forgot it was today." Gilbert whispered, barely audible. Both of them stood stunned for a moment, remembering the importance of this day.

"Me too," Germany added.

Prussia turned around and smiled. His bright, red eyes reflected a memory of long ago.
