Amazing
Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Willow/Tara , G
Takes place during season four's 'Who Are You?' the spell they did to find Buffy.

We moved our hands steadily as we recited the incantation that would allow Willow passage to the Nether Realm. The enchanted lights we conjured though part of the ritual encircled us and started to rise. By that time Willow and I were both panting and covered by a fine sheen of sweat from the sheer intensity and exertion required for the spell. I could feel electricity shooting between our palms as we formed the link allowing me to anchor her. She trusted me to be her anchor. I kept one eye on her the whole time. Her chest rose and fell heavily with every breath. My body was doing the same, our hearts, lungs, and minds perfectly in sync. Our gazes met briefly as the light ascended. Then the light exploded out like a shockwave and Willow fell backward, landing heavily on the cushions behind her. For a moment I thought we made a mistake, that something went wrong.

We had never done anything this complicated together, or anything similar. I knew Willow had never done other worldly transference, and I had only done it with my mom. I had never been the anchor before. But I could see her eyes moving behind her eyelids. She was still breathing hard, like she was having a bad dream. Willow had definitely left the building. I closed my eyes reluctantly and focused on being an anchor. I was trying hard not to think about Willow may be and just think about staying grounded. I had to think about the Earth and make myself feel connected to everything. Especially Willow. She gasped, making my eyes fly open. I almost pulled her back then; she was drenched in sweat, her red hair plastered to her forehead, her hands grasping at the ground around her, her back arched off the floor, and her breathing was ragged.

How long should this take? Should I—is there anything I can do? I'm not used to being someone's kite string. I've always done simple things, like seeing and the occasional honesty hex. I've never done anything like this. Not transdimensional stuff. I trust that our combined power is enough, but what If—oh, god.

Willow stopped moving, maybe breathing too. She just lay there on the floor, still as stone. The candle light had extinguished leaving us in near darkness save for the twinkle lights strung on the wall. Does that make a difference? Should I relight the quicks or will that break the spell? Will she be back soon? Is this what went wrong? Willow's eyes started to flicker open as her breathing noticeable. She took a few deep breaths before looking me in the eye. "Tara?" she whispered, "Are you..?"

"Yes! Willow, I'm right here." I whispered back, my words anxious and hurried. "Are you okay? Did it work?"

Willow blinked slowly, adjusting to her surroundings. "I'm—it worked. I'm fine," she carefully sat up. "I think." Her head was clearly spinning.

"Thank goddess." I breathed, helping her up. "You're sure?"

She nodded weakly. "That was…amazing."

I smiled back, no longer worried. "I'll say. You were" My mind searched for a suitable word. "Amazing."

I leaned forward, my lips brushing hers softly. Soon she, too, leaned into me. She pulled at my lip with her teeth, sucking and pulling me into a long, deep kiss. Our first kiss. She broke away and smiled.

"You're amazing."
