"It's as if no one has ever loved you."

Sara spoke those words to his injured, half-dead form as he bled out over the stones of the riverbed and the only thing he could think (besides "I'm gonna kill this bitch!") was that she was right. "Ouch, kick me while I'm down."

He couldn't recall a single person in the history of his life that had loved him—really loved him—in any way shape or form. He hadn't known his parents, and wasn't sure if he would have wanted to, considering the place he had been born (what had they done to deserve exile to the Criminals' Islands?). Koza acted like she loved him, but it had been recently discovered that she was just as heartless as her brother, and even more subtly manipulative.

So while he was worried—only slightly—that he was about to die at the hands of a fucking blind woman, he was also bitter and upset that he was departing from a world where no one would miss him.

"Yeah, well, fuck them," he wanted to say. But found that he couldn't (and not just physically).

For less than a second he almost thought of giving up; of letting Sara finish him off. If she claimed to be "the same as him" in that no one had ever loved her, then perhaps dying and indirectly reuniting her with her son would change that for her. Never mind that nothing would change on his end. He was being selfless, dammit; the least she could do was accept it without a fuss!

But all of those thoughts were dashed in the next second. All of the anger and bitterness he'd felt at being despised, detested and abhorred by every goddamn person he came across disappeared and were replaced with surprise and a shit-ton of pain.

"No! Don't kill him!" Fuu was screaming. Her tiny body thrown over his, he looked down and he could only see pink. Once he cleared his head a little he could hear the shiver in her words, the confused and frightened tears that made her voice sound wet and warbly.

And Sara stopped dead in her tracks; realizing about the same time as he did that her previous words had not been true. Fuu loved him. He didn't know what kind of love, (nor was he exactly eager to find out) but that wasn't really the point. The point was that while Sara was blind and kick-ass with a halberd, he still one-upped her. He had the one thing she wanted.

And while his consciousness slipped away, he gritted his teeth against the pain and narrowed his eyes. His lips formed a little smirk and he glared triumphantly at the stupid (but ridiculously hot) murderous bitch who couldn't see him.

Sure, he was two seconds away from meeting the Crow-Men (again) but he had fucking won.

A/N: Just finished watching the series again. I love it so much. Anyway, this happens in episode 21, I think, and when Sara said that and Fuu did that, I just had to do this. Enjoy!
