Remus stood wringing his hands, wondering how he was going to explain what was going through his mind. It would have been easier to say goodbye if he hadn't gotten so attached to her.
'Maybe Sirius is right', he thought, 'maybe I am a coward.'
He had had to do this once before, but it really hadn't worked. Now he was doing it to a muggle, because she couldn't live with finding out that she was dating a wizard and werewolf.
It was the third time in a row.
I'm gonna lay it all out
On the line tonight
And I think that it's time
To tell this uphill fight goodbye
When the session was over, Remus felt as though he had been wrung out and hung to dry.
'I can't keep doing this,' he thought, standing up to stretch his back muscles.
Later that night, a dream hanging over his head, he climbed out of bed and wrote to the one person he could trust.
'Lily,
How are things? I know it's rather late, but I really need to talk to someone. The fling that you and Sirius set up worked for only two days and then she found out about me. I can't keep doing this. I feel emotionally drained every time. I still wish things had worked out between us. Maybe if they had, I wouldn't still need your help with a date.
Just please write back, I need your advice on how to manage this new breakup.
Remus'
He reread the letter, nodding in satisfaction at his wording.
He called his owl over and handed her the note, whispering in her ear, "Please get this to Lily."

I'm a winner at a losin' game
The next week, when he heard that Sirius had been taken in to Azkaban, his thoughts on love were crushed. His eyes streamed with tears, reading the paper. Lily and James dead, Sirius in prison, life really couldn't be worse.
And Lily had never responded to his letter.
