""Never leave a friend behind. Friends are all we have to get us through this life-and they are the only things from this world that we could hope to see in the next." (Dean Koontz)
Clarissa long knew that serving Jace was simply a must. Not because she recieved a decent amount of pay or that she was free to do what she pleased. But because she appreciated his company, some of the time.
Jace was...sort of helpless in a way. He would never admit that but being his companion for so long caused her to study him more closely. On some occasions, he would act a bit superior and conceited. She found it quite irritating. Then again, the two never really got along. They fought. They argued. They bickered. They practically strangled eachother. Somehow, Jace and herself were part of a lasting bond.
Clarissa and Jace were different to say the least. Clarissa was sort of self-conscious, with garish crimson hair that never remained in place. She was usually restless, her confidence clearly not on a high. But she was cheerful. That word pretty much described her. Her face would light up even at the lamest of jokes and her eyes would dance with slight joy. You could hand her the worst job and she'd spot the fun in it instantly.
Jace, on the other hand, was confident. Self reliant. He was mostly exhausted, with dark bleary eyes, once resembling gold. He was generally slumped on his desk trying desperately to take a nap. You couldn't blame him. The young man was always busy. It was as if there was an old man in him, like he had seen too much. And Clarissa believed he did. Only she saw the side he tried to conceal. Maybe because he wanted her to.
Her thoughts began to clear when she heard him call, his voice muffled. Letting out an exhausted breath, Clarissa frowned but rose to her feet. She passed by a few of her co workers on the way, each of them giving her a knowing look. Jace probably needed some help and Clarissa was the only one who seemed to satisfy him. Smiling at his antics, the bright haired girl knocked the door and entered.
