She placed her keys down on the table next to a glass

vase filled with pink lilies. She breathed in the

scent, then exhaled. She had been held up at work

because of the many papers she had to file for her

boss. It was late, probably about eleven-thirty at

night. Her recently built house smelled of fresh paint

and candles. She quickly turned off the timed lights

and lit candles.

She carefully lit each one with a match and waved the

match out. Delicate streams of the burned out match

danced in the air as she pushed it into the sand. The

smell of the french vanilla candles hung heavily in

the air making it hard to breathe. She closed her

eyes enjoying the warmth that surrounded her body. A

sudden chill ran through her spine as she looked to

her left. She had accidentally left the window open,

or did she?

She closed the window and gazed at the moon through

the glass. She felt safe and secure when she looked

at it. The light from the candles flicked back and

forth as if it tried to struggle against an invisible

wind. The flames cast shadows across her clean white

walls making it seem as though they were dancing for

her.

Her body moved on it's own as if it were lured to the

shadows and made it move with them. She enjoyed the

carefree feeling as she danced with the shadows on her

wall. She didn't notice the shadows move with her as

if they were dancing in front of an audience. She

opened her eyes lazily and a candle went out, so did a

shadow. Each candle went out until one was left. The

flame seemed to grow bigger with each passing second

as she stared at it with awe.

Suddenly it flickered out, leaving the ashy colored

smoke to dance in the night. Something passed behind

her, making the hairs on her neck stand up. Sensing

danger, she ran upstairs feeling the fear rise within

her. A dark shadow raced behind her. She turned

right when she reached the top of the staircase.

Gasping for breath, she quickly turned her door knob

to the master bedroom and shut the door closed when

she was inside. She saw the dark shadow illuminated

by the glow of the moon. She ran for her balcony on

the other side of the room and forcefully pushed it

open.

She gazed up at the moon, feeling some of the fear

reside within her. She looked back behind her as she

came face to face with her opponent. She screamed, as

the shadow pushed her off the balcony and into the

darkness of the night. There was pure terror in her

eyes, when darkness had consumed her body and into the

cold harsh night. Sharp pain had embedded itself into

her body. The last thing she saw was the moon and

it's purifying glow that told her everything was going

to be ok...

She woke up with a start, shielding her eyes from the

bright morning sunlight. Had it all been a dream?

She tried to get up when a searing pain flowed through

her body.

Walking to her full length mirror, she stared at her

reflection. Her eyes looked bloodshot as if she had

been up all night reading. Turning to go take a

shower, she noticed two things. There were red rose

petals in her hair and thorns were stuck to her shirt.

She lifted up the back of her shirt and her breath

caught in her throat. There were tiny blood stains on

her back. There was only one explanation, it wasn't a

dream...
