notes: Short drabble, based off of chapter 325 ;_; May continue this, may not, but if I do it'll end up as a drabble!series.
He watches her fall with a kind of shock that permeates his entire being. It's like he's in water, suddenly, and the liquid is putting his flames out, and he wishes that he could breathe, so he tries.
In, out, in, out, breathe Natsu, says a voice in his head. And then it repeats when he can't.
Lucy looks up at him in distress, with those brown eyes of hers and she holds her future self close to her heart, whose head lolls, scratches and bruises clear on her face. Her eyes permeate through his head, whispering Natsu, Natsu, and he realizes that it's her voice he's hearing telling him to breath.
So he steels himself, and drags himself out of the water, ignoring the tears that run down his face-if he's not drowning, the water'll escape somehow-and he turns and glares, with an intensity that could push a person back and he feels the fire gather at his fists. He doesn't try and control it because now is not the time for control, it is the time for losing control.
"I'll burn the future away, if that's the case." The hoarse yell echoes and his blaze coruscates past it all.
Because if one Lucy is gone, there's no way in hell that he'll let the other disappear.
