Dear Diary:
It is I Emily Smith. I have a fondness of this fine young gentleman. His name is George Shelly. He is a strange one though. Maybe that is why I want him to escort me someday. The reason he is a strange one though is because he calls one of his papas slaves Uncle Tom. The thing is I know my papa will not allow him to ever see or even speak to me. Unless I can convince him that he is a fine man. My papa will never let me see him or speak to him because he believes that no one but the master, buyer, or trader should ever talk to them. I know this because I always talk to my slave friend Ana and when he spots me, he just yells at me and whips her in front of me. He whips her until she is on her knees begging for mercy. While I see this happen I try to hide the tear that normally runs down my face. I know I am not supposed to be friends but I do not see the difference. That is probably why George calls that slave Uncle because he sees no difference like I do. Now how can I convince my papa that he is a fine man. I know I can talk to mama about it. She will talk to papa and convince him that George Shelby is a wonderful man.
Dear Diary:
I talked to mama and she was be able to convince papa that George is a lovely man. I knew she could. I talked to him today and he said his family is going to be in debt and that he hopes that his father will not sell any of the slaves. He says if his father does he will try to buy them and give them freedom. Also today I talked with Ana she asked how the escorting went. I told what happened she jokingly said, "Watch if there is a War to set them free he will be on the side that tries to set slaves free. Then I replied, "Yes then they will be able to vote. Or at least the men." We laughed together right before my papa came thank goodness we stopped and I gave her an order. I talked to George again he seemed very sad. I had a feeling that his papa had sold the one he calls uncle.
Dear Diary:
I am now Mrs. George Shelby we now own his papa's slaves. He was ready to buy a slave to set him free but was to late. So he decided to set all of our slaves free so they can have freedom.
