Disclaimer: I do not own anything. Everything comes from the great mind of Aaron Sorkin. If I did own it then Matt & Harriet would still be together.

A/N: I wrote this the day after 'The Harriet Dinner Part 1' aired. I enjoy nice feedback.

Those few words kept running thru his mind. He had messed up big time. Maybe if he hadn't jumped to conclusions or acted on impulse then he could be holding Harriet in his arms right now. Luke Scott was the cause of his problems, first he broke him and Harriet up many years ago and now he had said something to her that affected whatever was happening between Matt & Harriet. Why couldn't he just mind his own business?

Writing had become impossible, yet he still had to finish writing 'Dolphin Girl' for tomorrow. How couldn't he write a sketch starring Harriet when all he wanted to do his run away and forget about her?

Was she right? Was it really like if they never really broke up but pretended to? In some ways she did have a point or Luke Scott did but he didn't want to think of it as his words. He most definatly called it a break up, all they really did now was argue and look at each other wishing that they had their relationship back. For a relationship to happen there had to be dates, kissing and things he didn't want to be reminded of at that moment. A relationship wasn't just arguing and saying "I loathe you".

If only he had done something after kissing her at the Christmas show. Maybe he could have been the one that had taken her to New Year's party or spent Christmas with her. No, instead he had to pretend like nothing happened and push his feelings for her away. I love you, three simple words that could have changed everything. He did love her, she was all he could think about. For now all he had to do was respect her wishes and pretend that whatever they had between each other never existed.

He didn't want to admit it but he was scared. He didn't want to think of a future without Harriet by his side. He knew they were wrong for each other but at the same time they were so right for each other. Scared was not the word he would have used, something more along the lines of terrifying fit for this situation. All that came to mind without Harriet was a world of darkness and sadness. He knew that she was the one he wanted to marry, have kids with and live his life with. Yet all that he had done was ruin his chances.

The past was in the past and the future was yet to be discovered. But yet for this couple everything was over. They had once been as one but now they are two halves of a whole. Two broken hearts, two lives and two futures.
