Title: Running Up That Hill Author: LaurenBanks Summary: NCIS, Ducky-centric drabble, first in my Chess series Rating: T
A/N: Ducky character study. He needs love. For Sarah
Dr. Mallard seems unflappable, even in the face of the most ghastly murder. He trudges on, sharing anecdotes with little relevance to the case at hand. He carries on the most delightful conversations with the most attentive audience one could hope for. Ducky works in his own world, occasionally admitting a trusted few. They linger, not for very long, only to glean what information is necessary. The reason being,
Ducky admits to himself, is that not everyone is comfortable around corpses. He has Palmer, playing a rather bumbling Watson to his eccentric Holmes. Ducky works in relative contentment, happy with his ability to help others to process and understand. The facets of the good doctor are not all presentable at this time, rather, they are hidden behind a wink and a smile. What he knows could fill several volumes. What he theorizes and speculates on, doing so without the express permission of a dear friend, could fill a library. Ducky does not play a piece, no. He appreciates the pieces and their worth, knowing their capabilities.
